Royal Lahaina or Ka’anapali Beach Hotel

Staying on West Maui? The Royal Lahaina and Ka’anapali Beach Hotel are two affordable options for budget conscious travelers.

Both resorts are located not far from the fabulous Ka’anapali beach, and have been popular hotels since first opening decades ago.

But resort is the better choice for you?

Which is Newer, The Royal Lahaina or Ka’anapali Beach Hotel?

The original Royal Lahaina resort was built in 1962, and was one of the first major developments in the area. But don’t let that put you off.

Although the rooms are a little dated, the interiors are comfortable, and have been refreshed over the years.

The Ka’anapali Beach Hotel was opened in 1964. Recent redevelopments have made the rooms comfortable and modern.

Does The Royal Lahaina or Ka’anapali Beach Hotel Have Bigger Rooms?

There are three types of rooms at the Royal Lahaina, but the standard rooms are 350 square feet. This is a little small for the typical Maui hotel, but not unreasonably so.

They fit two guests comfortably, and four guests if you don’t mind being a little snug. Rooms come with a private lanai, a tea and coffee maker, an ironing board, and a mini fridge.

Rooms at the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel are typically 425 square feet, and come with island style decoration and a private lanai. They’re all fully air-conditioned, and include a mini refrigerator, a tea and coffee maker, a hairdryer, and an iron.

What activities can you find at the Royal Lahaina and the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel?

The real standout feature of the Royal Lahaina is the Myths of Maui Luau. The oceanfront Luau is fantastic for families, and features an all-you-can-eat buffet packed with Maui delights.

It’s an unforgettable experience, full of passion and performance. We highly recommend booking in advance of your trip.

Ka’anapali Beach Hotel doesn’t have its own luau, but it does have a range of other Hawaiian activities. And these are typically free for guests at the hotel.

The Ka’anapali Beach Hotel prides itself on being the most Hawaiian hotel in all of Maui, and visitors will immediately see why.

The range of activities on offer allow you to immerse yourself in Maui traditions. Guests can make a lei, learn to hula, and learn the songs and stories of ancient Maui.

The Pool at Ka’anapali Beach Hotel

Which Has The Better Pool, The Royal Lahaina or Ka’anapali Beach Hotel?

Both the Royal Lahaina and the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel are located within walking distance of the stunning Ka’anapali beach.

The Pools at the Royal Lahaina

The Royal Lahaina is home to two pools: a main pool and a cottage pool. Both are fairly standard, and lack the slides and play parks that can be found in other resorts.

However, they do draw a crowd, and there’s typically a lively atmosphere at the main pool. The cottage pool can be slightly quieter, but the poolside bar attracts couples

The Pool at Ka’anapali Beach Hotel

There’s only one pool at Ka’anapali Beach Hotel, so it can get busy during peak times. It’s also quite small, although it is, adorably, shaped like a whale.

Kids will love splashing around in the water, and running across the ample lawn space that surrounds the pool.

Adults can enjoy relaxing on loungers, and getting a drink from the poolside bar.
