Kihei

Kihei is on the south side of Maui, and is one of the more arid climates on the island, receiving less than 10 inches of rain each year. Head to Kihei to experience six miles of beaches, offering surfing, swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. There are several research facilities in Kihei, particularly the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, which plays host to thousands of humpback whales each winter. Head to Kihei in January and you’re likely to spot a whale.
