Maui is home to two exceptional Hyatt properties: the Hyatt Regency, and the Andaz.
They both claim a part of the coastline on two popular island spots, with the Hyatt Regency attracting visitors to West Maui, and the Andaz welcoming visitors to the southern coastline.
Despite being owned by the same group, there are some distinct differences to the resorts.
Take a look at this guide to find out where to stay for a family friendly vacation, and where to look for a romantic couple’s retreat.
Where Is The Hyatt Regency Maui And Andaz Maui?
One of the big factors in deciding between the Hyatt Regency and the Andaz is where on Maui they’re located. Both are in some pretty fantastic areas, but with a distinct atmosphere.
The Andaz Maui can be found in Wailea, on South Maui.
This is an area known for luxury resorts and classy restaurants, and Wailea’s weather. The Wailea resort area is home to several stunning beaches, including those of nearby Makena.
The Hyatt Regency is on Ka’anapali Beach, a West Maui resort town that attracts families. Ka’anapali is well located for access to historic Lahaina town, and backs onto the West Maui mountains.
What Are The Rooms Like In The Hyatt Regency Maui Vs The Andaz Maui?
The standard rooms at the Hyatt regency are recently renovated, decorated with a calm simplicity.
The standard rooms are a decent 451 square feet and include a private lanai and deluxe bathroom.
There isn’t much to set the rooms at the Andaz Maui apart, which might not be a surprise considering they’re both Hyatt hotels. The Andaz rooms are slightly smaller, but the décor is fresh, and the bathrooms are lovely.
Can You Rent A Suite Or A Villa At The Hyatt Regency Or The Andaz Maui?
Guests can rent a suite at both the Hyatt Regency and Andaz.
However, if you’re interested in renting a villa, it has to be at Andaz Maui.
Suites at Andaz Maui are fairly standard, with 850 square feet bedrooms, connected living space, and bathroom. There is more variety with the villas, which include outdoor grills and plunge pools.
Suites at the Hyatt Regency are varied, with sizes and amenities to fit a variety of needs. The décor is due for a refresh, but the spaces are more than comfortable.
Does The Hyatt Regency Or The Andaz Maui Have A Better Pool?
The pool at Andaz Maui is four tiers of cascading infinity pools.
From the top level, there are panoramic views of the ocean and the Lehua Lounge, and the bottom levels are good for keiki looking to play.
Head to the suites for the quieter adults-only pool, but the complex is rarely full of families anyway.
The Hyatt Regency Maui, on the other hand, is home to one of the best pools on Maui. The six free-form pools are surrounded by waterfalls and feature a 150′ lava tube water slide and a rope bridge.
The only downside is the lack of an adults-only section.
What Restaurants Are At The Hyatt Regency And The Andaz Maui?
One of the highlights of Andaz Maui has to be the restaurants. Ka’ana Kitchen is a farm-to-table dining experience that serves food family style and explores the rich culinary history of the island.
Or for something a little different, try the sushi at Morimoto Maui. Even the pool snacks are good at Andaz, so grab a portion of fries from the Bumbye Beach Bar.
The Hyatt Regency keeps up the quality, with Japengo being one of the spots on the island for romance and steaks.
The Grotto Bar offers a unique drinks experience, with the cave setting being an unexpected place for traditional pub fare! There’s also a Maui staple, Ululani’s Shave Ice, on the premises.
Both the Hyatt Regency and Andaz Maui are also home to a luau.
Is There A Spa At The Hyatt Regency Or The Andaz Maui?
Both the Hyatt Regency and Andaz Maui are home to luxury spas.
These offer a blend of traditional and Hawaiian culture inspired treatments, including massages and facials. Both spas also include a salon.
The Hyatt Regency is partnered with Marilyn Monroe Spas. A highlight here is the “Cabana” Oceanview Massage, which combines your relaxing massage with the Maui scenery.
At Andaz Maui, Awili Spa and Salon encourages guests to personalize their treatment. Massages are enhanced with an immersive apothecary experience, and tailored products.
What Is Better At The Hyatt Regency Maui?
The Hyatt Regency Maui is the family oriented Hyatt.
The pool is the real stand-out, featuring slides and excitement to impress kids of all ages. This is backed up by the location, at the family-friendly Ka’anapali resort town.
There’s also the option to book bed and breakfast at the Hyatt Regency, which can be a huge help for busy families.
Also, it would be remiss not to mention that the Hyatt Regency Maui is home to actual penguins that guests are welcome to visit.
What Is Better At The Andaz Maui?
While the Hyatt Regency Maui caters to families, Andaz Maui has a distinctly sophisticated vibe. It’s not that kids aren’t welcome, it’s just that they’ll find less to occupy themselves with at this chic resort.
If you’re after simple elegance in a charming upscale location, the Andaz Maui is sensational.
There’s also a greater variety of rooms at the Andaz, as guests have the choice of suites and villas, as well as the standard rooms.
Family Friendly Or Chic Boutique?
The Regency and Andaz are both Hyatt properties, and you can expect a similar standard at each.
The Hyatt Regency combines world-class restaurants with a family-friendly appeal, finished with one of the best pool complexes on the island.
At Andaz Maui, a chic sophistication lends the property a boutique feel, and the Wailea location offers stunning panoramic views. Both are good options for a Maui vacation, it just depends on what type of stay you want.
